I'm seeing what I view as religion in its death throes. Within...two or three centuries, I think religion will be thought of not as a serious school of thought anymore, but of a hobby, one that's usually participated in by the backwoods people with nothing better to do. People will go to places like the Vatican and take pictures of all the different art and go, "Wow, people really believed this stuff."
Do I think god belief will disappear? No. Not even close. I think god belief will continue on and on and on as long as people have some sort of general fear of death and don't know absolutely everything about the universe and how it works. Spirits, a god that may or may not care, ad most new age hokus pokus can be found hanging around today by otherwise rational people who simply have a faint understanding of whatever sciences are being manipulated in order to provide justification for the irrational beliefs they hold. Yes, atheism is on the rise, but as most people might know, being an atheist doesn't make you a rational person. Raelians, new age hippies that believe in chakra and 'a uniting energy' and all other sorts of nonsense can be believed and ARE sometimes believed by atheists.
We have a long way to go...but at least one of the world's biggest problems, religion, is finally seeing the horizon where it won't be bothered with by serious people anymore. Well...at least I like to think so.
A man can dream.
